Home lift
A home lift is a lift that takes people from one floor to another in a house. This is ideal for people who use a wheelchair or for people who are unsteady on their feet and for whom a stairlift is not suitable. With a home lift it is possible to live independently at home for longer.
What does a home lift look like?
A home lift is very similar to the passenger lifts that can also be found in, for example, office or apartment buildings. But the home lift is much smaller. It has to be if it is to be installed in a normal house. There is usually only limited space available there.
A lift for every house?
Home lifts are available with and without a lift shaft. A lift without a shaft requires less drastic adaptations to the home. It also takes up less space and is cheaper.
To install a home lift with a shaft, more drastic structural alterations to the house are needed. The shaft itself already takes up quite a bit of space. In addition, there must be enough space left to get in and out of the lift with a wheelchair or rollator.
It is not always possible to install a home lift in existing homes. Of course, this is something that can be taken into account when building a new house. Removing the lift is not easy either. The lift shaft remains in the house.
To see whether it is possible to install a home lift, it is wise to have a technician come by. They will discuss the wishes and look at the possibilities.
Another option is to purchase a stairlift. This is cheaper, easier to install and takes up less space. A stairlift is not suitable for transporting wheelchairs or rollators.
